The 2nd Asian Beach Games (ABG) came to an end on December 16, 2010 in Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. During the 8 days, more than 1,200 athletes from 43 member countries and regions of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) competed in 52 events of 14 sports. Thailand, China and host country Oman ranked top three in the medals tally.

At the closing ceremony of the 2nd ABG, Haiyang, the host city of the 3rd ABG, took over the games flag, marking the start of Haiyang' turn to realize the ABG dream.

The closing ceremony was held in Al-Musannah Sports City in Muscat at 19 pm. The performance at the ceremony featured a combination of folk dances from Russia, Oman and other Asian countries and an emotional presentation of the anthem of 2nd ABG, well reflecting its theme - Together we shine.

Both OCA President H.E. Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Vice President Habib Abdul Nabi Yousuf Macki addressed the closing ceremony. Al-Sabah said in his speech that the 2nd Asian Beach Games had presented Asia and the world at large a grand meeting.

The handover of the games flag began at 21:40 pm local time. Yang Shu'an, Deputy Director of China's General Administration of Sport, Vice Chairman of Chinese Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the 3rd Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee, Jiang Shili, Mayor of Haiyang and Secretary-General of the Executive Board of the third Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee, attended the ceremony on behalf of China. The Chinese national flag rose up slowly at the closing ceremony accompanied by the resounding Chinese national anthem. In the next step, the OCA flag was carried by Mr. Habib and the sports minister of Oman and passed on to H.E. Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah who then presented the flag to Yang Shu'an. When Mayor of Haiyang Jiang Shili took the flag from Yang's hands, splendid fireworks blossomed immediately in the sky. From this moment on, it is Haiyang's turn to embrace this magnificent event.

The handover ceremony was followed by a 12-minute art performance by Haiyang organizing committee. Comprising unique Chinese cultural elements as well as local folk cultures of Haiyang and Shandong, the performance showed the Asian people an attractive and international coast tourist destination as Haiyang can be. The show began with a huge vessel loaded with the aspirations and hospitality of Haiyang people sailing for Muscat, Oman. It was followed by a folk dance Vibrant Fish led by Zhao Liping, an acrobatic ballet performance Ballet on the Shoulder and Charm of the Sea, and a Haiyang yangko dance. The song Meet in Haiyang by Chinese renowned singer Tang Can concluded the Chinese show.

    2012, a happy get-together in Haiyang!
